Parkinson disease protein 7, also known as protein deglycase DJ-1 or simply DJ-1, is a multifunctional enzyme that is highly conserved and has been identified in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. This protein is involved in a variety of cellular processes, such as anti-oxidation, proteostatis, and cell proliferation. DJ-1 is a regulator involved in many cellular processes (e.g., epigenetic regulations) and a promising therapeutic target for a variety of diseases due to its complex enzymatic and non-enzymatic activities and transcriptional coactivator function.
